In the day when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table.<\/h2>\n

A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow much is an ice cream sundae?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cFifty cents,\u201d replied the waitress.<\/p>\n

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it. \u201cWell, how much is a plain dish of ice ream?\u201d he inquired.<\/p>\n

By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient. \u201cThirty-five cents,\u201d she brusquely replied.<\/p>\n

The little boy again counted his coins. \u201cI will have the plain ice cream\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away.<\/p>\n

The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left.<\/p>\n

When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies \u2013 you see, he couldn t have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.<\/p>\n

(I\u2019m standing in a fairly short queue when a businessman walks in, pushes straight to the front and starts dictating his order to the 20-something year old cashier.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cashier: \u201cI\u2019m afraid you\u2019re going to have to go to the back of the queue, sir.\u201d<\/h2>\n

Business man: \u201cI have an important meeting shortly. You must serve me now!\u201d<\/p>\n

Cashier: \u201cYeah, the longer you stand there, the later you\u2019re going to be. Back of the queue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Business man: \u201cDo you have any idea who I am?\u201d<\/p>\n

Cashier:\u201dNope. Now shut up and go to the back of the queue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Business man: \u201cHow dare you talk to me like that?! Get me your manager now!\u201d<\/p>\n

(The cashier sighs heavily, walks into the back, comes out with an older woman in tow and nods her towards the businessman, then disappears back into the back.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manager:\u201dWhat seems to be the problem, sir?\u201d<\/p>\n

Business man:\u201dThat boy was incredibly rude to me! I demand you \ufb01re him immediately!\u201d<\/p>\n

Manager: \u201cI\u2019m afraid I don\u2019t have the authority to do that, but if you want I can get the owner for you.<\/p>\n

Business man:\u201dBah! Fine, but I expect to be compensated for having to go through all of this trouble!\u201d<\/p>\n

Manager: \u201cI\u2019m sure you can discuss that with him, Sir.<\/p>\n

(She then walks into the back, then comes out again with the now grinning cashier.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cashier: \u201cYo.\u201d<\/p>\n

Business man:\u201dWhat\u2019s the meaning of this? I said I wanted to talk to the owner!\u201d<\/p>\n

Cashier: \u201cLike I said, yo.\u201d<\/p>\n

(The businessman silently gapes for a few seconds, then walks out stammering threats about having his head and closing the shop down.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manager: \u201cWhy do you always have to involve me?\u201d<\/p>\n

Cashier: \u201cI just love the look on their stupid little faces when they \ufb01nd out I own this joint.\u201d<\/p>\n

(The manager rolls her eyes and walks into back.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cashier: \u201dI love this job. What can I get you?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
